Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced twice from set-pieces in the first half to put their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the tally a short while after the defender's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine saves to ensure the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves the manager's side into third place in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay 14th and sit half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils duties at each end of the field

After a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a only two shots on goal, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And the captain - stepping up as skipper in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defence, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the pair dealt superbly with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted only a single goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having space and time to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, too, failed to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly delivered threatening balls into the Spurs penalty area.
